Last spring the Clippers announced they were starting up a brand new Gleague team in Ontario. The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario was the newest team in the Gleague. I didn't think much of it at the time. Summer came and went, and the basketball season was coming up. I was asked if I wanted to be their photographer as well. I went to capture their training camp first and the media day portraits after that. The games ended up being some of the best games I have ever worked. I loved going to those games, and made it out every game I could. The games were so different than an NBA game. Most games I was the only photographer there, which meant I could move around freely and get different angles. Also I had a lot more access and got to know some of the players, which made for better photographs. My favorite part was being able to try out new techniques and settings throughout the games. I could experiment more than I could at Staples Center. Some things worked and some didn't but I got better because of that. This team was fun to cover, a lot of guys came and went, but they always competed. If they were ever down in the second half, you knew they were going to come back and make it interesting.
This first season shooting the AC Clippers was one to remember, Hopefully next fall I will be shooting some of the guys in the NBA. I don't know what the plan is for next year, but I hope to be back in Ontario for game-days.
Take a look back at the inaugural season of the AC Clippers of Ontario with my favorite images...
