I just shot my last CBU basketball game at home. Hopefully that is not true though, as they can still host the NCAA regional tournament, but we will have to wait and see. I have spent the last four years capturing both the teams in Van Dyne. I went back in my archives and counted them up, the final number was 57 games. There has been lots of great games in that gym and I only saw about 6 games that ended with the Lancers on the losing side. Of all the gyms I have been in, there is nothing like Van Dyne.
Over the last few years, I have tried shooting from every angle possible, some worked and some didn't. I have put remote cameras everywhere I could and have come to enjoy shooting in this gym over and over. Truth is I am going to miss this gym and I just hope I get a few more games in it a few weeks from now.
Anyways, about the games last night. As soon the schedule came out in the fall, I knew this was going to be a special night. I wasn't going to miss it for anything. Game day was finally here and it was time for the Last Time in Van Dyne. I got to the gym a few hours early to capture the empty court and details of the gym. I then got all my cameras ready. I used five cameras all throughout the night. Two remote cameras and three with me. I wanted to capture everything for this game.
First up was the Women's game against Point Loma. The top two teams in the Pac West conference. It was going to be a good game and it did not disappoint. The Lancers needing this win to remain undefeated in conference and continue their record breaking streak. The game was coming down to the last few minutes and ended regulation tied. It was the first OT all year, and the Lancers pulled away and closed the regular season with one last win. It was a fitting end to an amazing season. Can't wait to see what this team does in the postseason. Check out my favorites from the Women's game below.
Next up was the men's game on Fox Sports vs. Point Loma. These teams matched up earlier in the season down in San Diego and it was a close game, I was expecting this one to be close too. Before the tip the two seniors were honored one of them was Michael Smith the all time points leader for CBU and the PacWest. I have captured his game all four years, it was cool to see him improve each year. It was an honor to shoot some of the first photos of his CBU career and the last. The game tipped off I got my favorite photo of the night...
I wanted to capture the whole gym with the last jump ball in this gym. I put my fisheye lens on and attached to my monopod to get as high as possible.
The game was intense and the teams went back and forth both halves. There was a few minutes left and the Lancers just couldn't hold off Point Loma and they took the win. It wasn't the ended everyone wanted, but regardless of the result it was still a great night closing out this place. Check out my favorite photos from the men's game below.
It has been a blast being able to capture both these teams the last couple years, I can't believe I am just about done shooting CBU Basketball. Thanks for all the players and staff for letting me do my thing in Van Dyne.

In just nine short months, the Lancers will be back home and have a fancy new event center to play in. Don't worry I'll be back to capture the first time in the Event Center.
