One Last Midnight Madness

Midnight Madness has always been my favorite event of the year. This was the third year I was capturing it for Athletics, and each time it makes for some really interesting photos. This year was the very last midnight madness in Van Dyne Gym.

The brand new Event Center is going to be finished this spring and basketball moves in next season. It was a special night, as it was also my last midnight madness here at CBU. I wanted to try some new things this time around. That included using strobes to light up the gym and bring more light in for the dunk contest. I also used three remote camera setup around the gym. Those included...

One behind the backboard looking down on the rim. This did not work the best, as the lighting was really dark around the hoop and I only got a few usable shots. Sometimes things don't work out how you want it too, and just have to make it work.

One on the stage, looking straight down the catwalk. This made for some pretty cool images, with the players running out and the students going crazy.

The last one was above the catwalk looking down on the player intros. These were my favorite photos from the night. I had this idea last year, but I was finally able to put it up and make this images. Such a different angle on the intros that really showed the students right against the stage.

It was such a historic night and a great way to kick off the last season in Van Dyne. Looking forward to capturing the season and hopefully end the year with a long tournament run. The home opener is Friday at 4pm!  Take a look at my 50 best from the night.
